Requirements for Nurse Registration for Applicants Prepared in other Canadian Provinces
1. Successful Completion of a basis program in nursing approved in another Canadian province.
2. Original registration/licensure by examination in another Canadian province. The CNATS test paper in psychiatric nursing will be required for all candidates who have graduated since January 1, 1972 .
3. Current registration/ licensure or eligibility for renewal of registration/licensure in the original jurisdiction and in the jurisdiction of current or most recent employment.
4. (a) Evidence of satisfactory performance in employment in nursing as a registered nurse in Canada or the United States within the past five years; or
(b) Satisfactory completion of an 8-12 week period of assessment of nursing practice as approved by the College of Nurses.
Theses policies are approved for use by the Registrar.
All applicants have the right to appeal decisions based on these policies. Appeals are forwarded by the Registrar to the Registration Committee.
Note: Requirements 4 is waived for applicants who have graduated from a basic nursing program in Canada within the 21 months prior to application for registration in Ontario.
