Advertising Agreement or Contract from the Guelph Mercury; black print and handwritten black ink on rectangular white paper.
Issued August 28th, 1848 and signed by W. Telfer, Advertising Salesman of the Guelph Daily Mercury.
This agreement is entitled: "(IN DUPLICATE) Memorandum of Agreement for Advertising in The Guelph Daily Mercury" and states that the Mercury will insert advertising "30 lines or more twice weekly for one year from August 28, 1948 for which I [the customer] will agree to pay monthly at the rate of 4 cents per line."
Under this agreement, printed in smaller print are the specific conditions: "THIS AGREEMENT does not include insertions in the Classified section, reading matter columns, or any other class of advertising subject to special charge, but applies exclusively to the legitimate commercial announcements of the undersigned. // If the space used is less than the amount contracted for or in the event of cancellation of non-fulfillment of this contract for any cause all advertising inserted will be charged at the prevailing transient rate."
