On the back is a note from John to his wife Gladys and in the note he mentions the roses that are in their caps in the photo. The roses were handpicked earlier in the month. On the bottom of the photo, in pen is "John - France Dec. 9, 1918"
On the back is this note: "To My Dear Gladys, With love and best wishes from as always ohn. Can you imagine roses in Dec.? It doesn't seem possible but we picked those in our caps in the open on Dec. 1/18. This is a poor picture but I can't help it as my face slipped. John"
