Letter; rectangular white paper with company letterhead in black print and typewritten n black type. Spaces filled in with black handwritten ink. Letter is addressed to Mr. John Beare, Armadale P.O. and is dated "Guelph, 25 Nov. 1876". The letterhead is: "COSSITT'S Agricultural Implement Works, GUELPH, ONT. / "FARMERS' FRIEND" GANG PLOW. / "King of the Harvest" Fanning Mills, Horse Power Feed Cutters, Hand Power Feed Cutters, Turnip Seed Drills, Lawn Mowers (Philadelphia Pattern), Horse Pokes, etc. / L. COSSITT, PROPRIETOR." The letter is a form letter that sets out terms and conditions to distributors or retailers who will sell Cossitt's Gang Plow. The blanks are filled in with handwritten ink and specify the terms and dates to Mr. Beare who visited Cossitt's in November.
"We can confidently recommend this Plow to your notice, knowing it will give you every satisfaction. The frame is wrought iron, firmly and securely put together, and of good workmanship. This Plow does not clog, runs very light, stands without a rival, and guaranteed to do its work well if properly handled, or no sale.
The price of the Gang Plow is $30.00 delivered at your nearest Railway Station, and on this we will allow you a commission of 10 per cent.
The terms of sale are Cash, with a discount of 10 per cent. Where notes are taken we give until January 1878 and sometimes take two notes, one payable in Spring 1877, and one with interest at from 6 to 8 per cent, as soon after as possible, but in no case longer than January 1878. We must have payment in full, or a part this next year. We will accept, in payment for all Plows sold by you, the notes or cash that you receive, it being understood that time is given to responsible farmers only. We must have interest on all notes due after ----. We send with this some circulars and blank notes to be used in selling the Plows. Your orders can receive our early attention, and awaiting your reply. I am, yours, &c., L. COSSITT".
