Description Booklet, "A Story of the Beginning of the Y.M.C.A. in Guelph, Ontario" by Walter E. Buckingham, Chairman of the Building Campaign. Rectangular white paper cover with black and purple printed lettering on front cover. Inside pages and back cover are white with printed black text. Front cover has a b/w photograph of the Y.M.C.A. Building at the corner of Quebec and Yarmouth Streets. Under picture is printed: "A Story of the Beginning of the Y.M.C.A. in Guelph, Ontario / by / Walter E. Buckingham, Chairman of The Building Campaign". Inside front cover, in upper left corner, is "1974 / To Guelph Museum from Ross Maltby" in handwritten blue ink. On opposite page (page 3) is the "Foreword" written by A.T. Bradshaw, General Secretary. In upper right corner is written: "30th anniv. 1944". Bradshaw acknowledges that this booklet is published on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Y.M.C.A. in Guelph, and honours Walter E. Buckingham who was responsible for the planning of the institution, established in 1914. The booklet is a published version of an address delivered by Buckingham at the Annual Meeting of the Guelph Y.M.C.A. on January 25, 1944. It relates that story of the founding and establishing of this association in 1914. Included in the narrative is a letter from Buckingham to A.W. Cutten on January 26, 1911.
Loose in the booklet are two copies of an invitation addressed to former members of the Y.M.C.A. Board of Directors, members and friends, from A.T. Bradshaw, General Secretary. The invitation is to a service on Sunday, June 18th, 1944 at 3 p.m. at Chalmers United Church in Guelph. The service is a commemoration of the Centennial of the Y.M.C.A. and the 30th anniversary of the Y.M.C.A. in Guelph.
After the service, they are invited to the Y.M.C.A. building for a reception where tribute would be paid to its Guelph founder, Walter E. Buckingham.
