Letter; Copy of letter, typed in purple on white paper. Written by C.H. Gethin, 53 Cambridge St., Guelph, Ont, and dated January 2, 1913.
Addressed to the Industrial Commissioner, London, Ont., Gethin is investigating the possibility of opening a carpet factory in London. On the reverse side of paper is a sketch of a factory floor plan.
" Dear Sir,
I am given to understand that your city offers inducements to manufacturers, and in this respect I would like to lay before you plans I have for the formation of a new Carpet Company in the Dominion.
I learned my trade with Messrs. T.F. Firth & Sons of Bridgehouse, England, and worked my way with them until I was Superintendent of their Brussels Dept. Altogether I was with these people for sixteen years. I resigned to endeavour to better myself in the United States, and in that Country I was Superintendent of Messrs. Shuttleworths of Amsterdam, N.Y. This last place I resigned from owing to a dispute with Mr. Shuttleworth about salary. The Dominion has at the present time an excellent opening for another Carpet Company, and I should like to associate myself with some others, and start one. My experience extending over twenty-five years, exclusively devoted to the Carpet business should qualify me for the position of Superintendent, and I can secure the necessary men, expert in their several lines, to assist me. I shall be very pleased to hear from you, if you feel you could be of any assistance to me, and I shall be glad to learn what your city is offering to mfrs.
If you will please let me hear from you, I shall, if you think it likely that I could succeed in your city, regarding associates, be glad to come to London and lay before you the complete plans I have formed for the establishment of a Carpet Company in the Dominion.
Yours sincerely, C.H. Gethin"
