Description Statement; beige rectangular paper with black print letterhead and trademark in top part of statement. Lower portion is lined and divided into five columns with printed red lines. In handwritten black ink, purchases made by customers are dated, described and the prices are listed in the appropriate columns.
The statement is issued by Britannia House / Rust & Sandilands, Dry Goods Merchants and dated April 10th, 1865. The customer is Mrs. Edward Thomas. The statement notes that the outstanding balance of $21.47 was paid on May 30th, 1865. It is signed and dated by John A. Wightman, Agent.
Letterhead: "BRITANNIA HOUSE, Wyndham St., Guelph / Bought of RUST & SANDILANDS, DRY GOODS MERCHANTS, WYNDHAM STREET, GUELPH, C.W. [CANADA WEST] / MANTLE & MILLINERY SHOW ROOMS." "TERMS -CASH" is printed under customer's name in upper left corner.
Trademark in upper left corner is an image of a female [perhaps Britannia] dressed in a long gown with a Roman helmet on her head and she is carrying a sceptre with three points on it. The woman is seated on a lion; a picture of a lion's head is depicted on the bodice of her gown. In her right hand, she is holding a wheel whose spokes are in the shape of the British flag. Behind her in the background is the ocean and two sailing ships. In the foreground, just behind the woman is a wooden crate with the letters "R & S / G".
In handwritten ink in lower part:
