White, rectangular parchment paper certificate awarded by the United Nations to Major Gerald Henry Howitt for his peace keeping work in the Palestine. At the top there is black printing, "United Nations" and "Nations Unies" which are divided by a drawn UN medal of a blue ribbon with white stripes and a gold medal with an ivy wreath and a map of the world. The print is black and in calligraphic style. The award is signed in blue ink.
On certificate: "THIS IS TO CERTIFY THAT THE SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS HAS AWARDED "THE UNITED NATIONS MEDAL" TO MAJOR GENERAL HENRY HOWITT CANADIAN ARMY IN RECOGNITION OF HAVING COMPLETELY MET THE REQUIREMENTS OF ELIGIBILITY AND HAVING COMPLETED THE NECESSARY PERIOD OF QUALIFYING SERVICE AS A MILITARY MEMBER OF THE UNITED NATIONS TRUCE SUPERVISION ORGANIZATION IN PALESTINE. GIVEN UNDER MY HAND IN THE CITY OF JERUSALEM."
