Black and white photograph of two stone builidngs, the Raymond Sewing Machine Factory (left) and the First Knox Presbyterian Church (right) in Guelph. The original photograph dates to circa 1870. This is a photograph of a photo of the first Raymond factory on Yarmouth street. The building stretches from Yarmouth to Baker street and along the ridge of the roof is a sign "Raymond's sewing Machines". In front of the factory is a buggy pulled by a horse. Next to Raymond's is a small stone building - the first Knox presbyterian Church. To the left of the factory is a large lumber pile. In the foreground is a fenced in area. On the back, in pencil and pen, is "Raymond Sewing Machine factory Yarmouth St. to Baker St. between 1866-1875 building on the right is the old Knox Church". A black stamp "F. Grundy" is also stamped on the back. |
