Description |
Notecard with a drawing of the Wellington Hotel by Dorothy Clark McClure on the front. The card is printed on Manila cardstock paper with the text and image a brown colour. It is a landscape orientation. The card is blank inside and has an unfinished edge on the front. The image on the front shows the Wellington Hotel and surrounding streetscape. Along the bottom of the image "The Wellington Hotel (c. 1880) Guelph, Ontario." There is a brief paragraph on the back describing the history of the building: "Guelph's first Wellington Hotel was located on the old St. George's Square but was demolished in 1876 to make way for the new Post Office (demolished in 1960). The present full-blown Victorian structure was built on the site of an old salt yard at the top of Wyndham St. Guests were treated to a striking view of the Speed River and Eramosa Hill from its multiplicity of windows. Down Woolwich St. can be seen the spire of St. George's Church, the work of architect Henry Langley who also created St. Michael's Cathedral in Toronto. From an original drawing by Dorothy Clark McClure, Copyright, The Red House Studio, Aurora, Ont." The envelope is plain Manila colour with no text and not sealed. .1 - Card, .2 - Envelope |
