Description |
Letter from Amy B. Howitt to Major George Everett Ward, dated 9 March 1943. A one-page typewritten letter in black ink on a blue Air Letter To Armed Forces. The letter reads: Major George E. Ward, No 1. Canadian Artillery, Reinforcement Unit, Canadian Army Overseas from Mrs. H.O. Howitt, 221 Woolwich St, Guelph Ont. March 9/43 My dear George Just a little note to tell you how delighted I was to hear your news in Nans cable which arrived this morning Congratulations! A nice bit of news to come this morning of the twentieth monthly anniversary of your wedding day! Nan telephoned Isabel Aylward but she had not had a cable from Jack & was so pleased to hear it was confirmed. I am sure you will be glad to hear that my sister - Grace is recovering slowly from her very serious operation that she had three weeks ago. She has another one ahead but the worst one is over & the doctor seems pleased with her progress. I have had a very sad & anxious winter with worry over her poor darling she has been through so much. I was so delighted Dick & you had such a nice leave together. I suppose if you had planned it - it would never have worked out like that. Nan & Amy are off to an I.O.D.E. dance tonight - I wish I were too as it is a very good orchestra - but nobody asked me Sir she said so here I sit in an awful mess the drawing room completely dismantled as it is in the process of being painted I have waited a year to have it done So while there is still paint we thought it should be done - Everything is getting harder to get - & fewer men to do things for you & the conversation turns to food whenever women get together as everyone is doing their own cooking or nearly everyone. Nancy is improving in that line almost daily. I used to think you might die of starvation or indigestion from hot dogs, but I won't worry about you on that score any longer. My love & best wishes to you, George dear Affectionately Amy B. |
