Charter granting Guelph Union number 186 into the International Alliance of Amalgamated Sheet Metal Workers. It is printed in black and red ink with a gold seal in the bottom left corner. 4.5 cm in from the edge of the paper is a border consisting of images of various objects that are made using sheet metal (for example vent pipes). Below the "Amalgamated Sheet Metal Workers International Alliance" header is a shaded area with three images on top. The first image on the left is a sketch of an eagle standing on a shield with the American flag on it. A banner below reads "E Pluribus Unum" Latin for "Out of many, one" or "One out of many". The second image appears in the middle and is a photograph of seven men working in a sheet metal shop on various items. The third image on the right is a sketch of the Royal Coat of Arms of Canada with a banner below that reads "Dominion of Canada". Text reads: Amalgamated Sheet Metal Workers International Alliance Charter granted to Daniel L. Watt, William Mann, Albert Cain, Austin J. Howard, E. E. Pace, John Wagner, Robert McGill, A. Bomrose. And their successors, legally elected, to constitute a union to be known as Union No. 186 of Guelph, Ontario for the purpose of effecting a thorough organization of the trade; and the said Union, being duly formed, is hereby authorized and empowered to initiate into the union any person or persons duly proposed and elected according to the constitution of the International Alliance, and to enact by-laws for the government of their union. Provided Always (printed in red), that the said Union No. 186 conforms to the constitution, laws, rules and regulations of the International Alliance. And provided, also, that said Union be located in Guelph Ontario and not removed therefrom without the consent of the International Alliance, and, in default thereof, or any part, this Charter may be suspended or taken away by decision of the International Alliance. And should the said Union No. 186 be dissolved or forfeit this Charter, then all property, moneys, books and papers of said Union shall become the property of the International Alliance. And Further (printed in red), in consideration of the due performance of the above the Amalgamated Sheet Metal Workers International Alliance (printed in red) do find themselves to support the said Union No. 186 in the exercise of its sights and privileges as a Subordinate union. In Witness Whereof (printed in red) we have subscribed our names and affixed the seal of the International Alliance, this Eighteenth day of February A. D. one thousand nine hundred and Four. R. Pattison, General President John E. Bray, General Secretary. Below the border is the printers information "Clohesey & Co., Printers, 84-96 Fifth Ave., Chicago, Ill." A tiny logo appears smudged below the writing with "54" printed to the right. |
