Letter from Nancy Felicia (Howitt) Ward to Major George Everett Ward, dated 23 May 1943. A one-page typewritten letter in black ink on a blue Air Letter To Armed Forces. The letter reads: Major George E. Ward, 8th Army Field Regt., Royal Canadian Artillery from Mrs. George E. Ward, 221 Woolwich Street, Guelph, Ontario. May 23rd, 1943 Hello My Darling; How are things going? You have been with the 8th for a month now and the postie has'nt [sic] brought me any word from you since you were moved - he had better come through with one this week - or else! Do hope everything is going in dindy fashion for you Darling. Friday I had an appointment with a new dentist in Toronto - Dr. Sheldon. He was highly recommended to me so thought I'd try him as my six months were up and my old dentist has gone into the Army. I like but not what he has to do to me on the 3rd.!! Some bridge-work has gone definitely on the screw-G and he told me it was a headache to him to have to pull it down so I'll be a mighty relieved gal when the whole business is over. Why my ol' teeth have to give me so much trouble - I don't know - just born to have bum ones, I guess. I drove down with Maj. Carp - he had some court of inquiry on and we expected to come back that night but his business was'nt [sic] cleared up in one day so I stayed with Honor that PX and we left Saturday afternoon around 2.30. It was nice to see something of Heysie because it has been a dog's age since we have had a get-together. Found myself on Bloor St. about half an hour too early for my appointment with Dr. Sheldon so wandered into the "Metrepole" Music Centre and spent this half hour having a peach of a time playing records. I walked out with a few I'm pleased I bought. You would like the ones I have of Frankie Carle - they are piano solos with rhythm [sic] acc. Darling. As for the tunes they are oldies but good. "I know that you know" - "Sweet and Lovely"- "After you've gone" and Swingin' down the lane. I am still coo-coo about rhumbas Sweetie so I got a couple of niftys by Cugat [sic]. This turned out to be a fair splurge in record-buying but it was due. My favourites are "It had to be You" and "Rosetta - and I wonder why Darling? Uncle Edward and the Drew's are in town this weekend. We are having dinner with them tonight. Amy and the children were over for dinner at noon and we all ate in shifts! Rusty, Diana and I had ours in the garden. Dad had a big operation around noon so we did'nt [sic] know when to expect him knew though that he was bringing Dr. Lewis back for dinner after the operation. At two Aim and Mum decided to go with theirs - then at three Dad and Dr. Lewis popped up so it was'nt [sic] till after four Mum and I finally had things straightened up in the kitchen. Today has'nt seemed like Sunday to me so I'll probably be thrown off schedule this coming week! I had a nice letter from Dick Hungerford the other day thanking me for some cigarettes I had sent him; he writes a darn good letter. Darling I hope that picture you had enlarged comes through soon. Lois Best Murray told me Friday Bill Fess is expected back soon!! - ggrrr. He and Art Kearns apparently are slated for the next course at Kingston. Bernice is off this weekend and Mum and I have a hunch she is going to make it a "long one" as tomorrow is the 24th. I'd probably do the same thing myself but I wish she had tipped us off! George Darling I love you and miss you so - with all my heart and soul and still more. Please take good care of yourself Sweetie Must away and drop this in the box - ALL my Love, Kisses and Hugs to you and Good Luck Darling. Nancy [signed] [handwritten] Have you heard this one Sweetie? What is the definition of a maternity dress? - A zoot suit with the rape drape - |
