Description |
Commercial Course Diploma. Large off-white rectangular piece of paper with intricate blue, brown and red border. At top in large writing, says "Guelph Public Schools Commercial Course" with emblem in middle of words. Under this is written "The Board of Education of the City of Guelph has Awarded this" and in larger writing; "Diploma". From middle of diploma to bottom writing is printed on paper and some is handwritten; "To Ada Caulfield in consideration of her having passed the Departmental Examination for entrance to high schools and Collegiate Institutes on the thirtieth day of June A.D. 1895 entered upon the Commercial Course in connection with the Guelph Public Schools in September 1896 and completed the same in June 1898 by passing a satisfactory examination in the following subjects: Reading, Writing, Spelling, Arithmetic, Business forms and Usages, Geography, Composition, Bookkeeping, Precis Writing, Indexing and Phonography". At the bottom of the diploma, there are three signatures, W. Tytler B.A. as the Inspector and Secretary Public Schools, Hugh (can't read last name), Chairman Board of Education, and D. Young, Headmaster. At the very bottom of the diploma, in very small writing; "Jas. Hough, Jr., Art Printer, Guelph". |
