Black and white photograph of John McCrae and his horse Bonfire in France, dated between 1916-1917. The photograph is a side view of John, dressed in full military uniform and seated on Bonfire who is standing on a dirt road. John is holding Bonfire's reins in his left hand and a riding crop in his right. In the background is a lean-to or shed attached to an addition of a main 2 or 3 story building. Stamped on the back of the photograph is "Caudeville - photographs - 7. r. des Carreaux - Boulogna-Sur-Mer". A handwriiten inscription in pencil reads "John McCrae on Bonfire, c.1916-1917". |
