Notes |
Historic Context - Royal Visit, 1939 In 1939, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (later the Queen Mother) toured Canada. It was the first time a reigning monarch had come to Canada. On June 6 their visit brought them to Guelph. As their train arrived in Guelph, the royal couple was greeted by Mayor Taylor, playing kiltie bands, an ovation of thousands of adults and children, and were guarded by hundreds of war veterans.
