Black and white aerial photograph of Downtown Guelph, September 1972, The photograph was taken by Ken Barton Photography. The photograph shows the downtown core. In the bottom right is Catholic Hill with the original St. Stanislaus School, the rectory, Church of Our Lady, St. Agnes School and The Loretto Convent and Bishop Macdonell High School. On the other side of Cork St. are the Church tennis courts. Along Dublin St., Central School and the Salvation Army Church are visible. Along Paisley Street, Royal Dairy, The Red Barn, the Guelph Public Library and Guelph Fashion Furs are all visible. Quebec Street is seen running all of the way down to Woolwich Street. At the top of Quebec Street West is the Park mall apartment building on the north corner of Quebec, Yarmouth and Baker Streets and the Duncan McPhee Building is on the opposite corner. Norfolk Street is seen running diagonally from the Left corner to the Right side of the frame passing under the Norfolk Pedestrian Bridge. Yarmouth Street is seen from Quebec Street almost to Woolwich Street. Baker Street and Baker Street parking lot are seen in their entirety. Cork Street is shown running from the bottom Right and ending on Wyndham Street. Macdonell Street is shown beginning at Norfolk Street and ending at Elizabeth Street. Carden and Wilson Streets are shown in their entirety. Woolwich Street is seen from Macdonell street to the Left side middle. The Speed River is seen running diagonally from the Left side middle Eramosa Road Bridge crossing under Heffernan Street Bridge to Allan's Bridge. The Canadian National Railway is seen from the top running diagonally to the Right side middle crossing over the Railway Bridge. The Canadian National Railway is seen from the Left side middle by the Eramosa Road Bridge along the Speed River passing under the Railroad Bridge on Macdonell Street. In the bottom right corner, Ken Barton has signed his name but it is hard to see. Printed in pencil on the reverse: "2" white matt A-16 reg. glass" "City Hall John Kentner 822-1260 ex. 266" Stamped in purple ink - very faint: "Ken Barton Photography Sept. 1972 Neg. No. 1405-11" The photographed was framed and on the backing there was the following note: "Picture taken by Ken Barton during summer of 1972 Dating Photograph: June '73 permit taken out for new Bell offices Nov. '73 Permit to demolish Royal Bank July '72 Permit to put in 4 stores on Love Property Oct. '72 Demolition of Triplex at Douglas and Woolwich Feb. '73 Demolition of old Crawford TV We know it's summer by the trees and the construction underway at Wyndham and Macdonell plus the fact that a vacant lot hasn't appeared yet at Woolwich and Douglas pinpoints the year as 1972.
