Description |
A ballroom chair from the home of Mable A. (Snowdon) Humphries (1875-1962) and Ralph Humphries (1874-1946) and later owned by Wilma Humphries (1891-1968). The settee is made from walnut wood with plush mohair upholstery with flower design in blue, grey and black/brown. The wood features a carved fruit and leaf design. The arms are partly upholstered with two white crocheted arm protectors. The seat and backrest upholstery is multi-coloured brown, grey and blue. Part of an 8-piece set with matching fabric and wood design. Ralph Humphries was a tea salesman/merchant who moved to Manitoba between 1911 and 1916. His brother Charles Humphries was also a tea salesman who the 1921 census lists as blind. Charles' daughter Wilma was a teacher until at least 1957. |
