Description |
Hog tongs manufactured by Auld and Woodyatt at some point between 1885 to 1895. The cast iron tongs have two long shanks that are joined by a screw in the center axis. The jaw elements of the tongs curve inward. The lower jaw is longer than the upper jaw, intended for the pinching of a snout. The center axis point has embossed lettering that reads "A & W". Augustus R. Woodyatt and Charles Auld founded Auld and Woodyatt in 1888. The factory operated at the corner of Norfolk and Paisley Street. In 1892 when Auld left the company, Woodyatt rebranded as Woodyatt and Company. The company existed until Woodyatt's death in 1901 and was later sold in 1902 to the Taylor-Forbes Company. |
