Notes |
Historic Context: Joseph A. Tovell (1848-1940) was a Guelph harness maker. He established J. A. Tovell Harness in the early 1870s and built a four-storey stone building at 56 Wyndham Street in the early 1880s. This building became known as 'Tovell Block' and Joseph operated his store here until the early 1900s. The Royal Bank of Canada took over the space in 1906, remaining there until 1972. Tovell continued his business until the late 1930s at 96 Wyndham Street in Guelph. |
