Miniature plastic hat token (.1) in miniature cardboard hatbox (.2) with lid (.3), pamphlet (.4), and card (.5) produced by Biltmore Hats Limited, date unknown. The black plastic hat token has an oval shaped brim. Printed on top of the hat token is "Biltmore Hats". The hexagonal, cardboard hatbox has a red exterior and red interior. On the side there are eight pictures of hats worn in different countries: Havelock (French Legionnaire), Panama (Ecuador), Terai (Mombasa to Bombay), Ten Gallon (Plains), Sou'wester (at sea), Sombrero (Latin America), Turban (India), and the Laplanders Peski (Arctic). The box has a hexagonal, cardboard lid with a red finish and printed in gold coloured text, reading "Biltmore". The folded pamphlet inside the box illustrates the eight different hat types from the exterior of the box and offers more information on each style. A rectangular card printed with red text reading "With Best Wishes - Biltmore" is also inside the box. |

Historic Context - Biltmore Hat Tokens The Biltmore Hat tokens were made in several different designs. Each came in a miniature hatbox with a plastic token inside. This token could be one of several colours, including black, red and dark green. The plastic token could be exchanged for a full-sized hat.
