Description |
Toy Bank. Lunch box type of bank. Dark brown with copper coloured streaks running through it. It is rectangular in shape. Has a handle which is riveted to he top of the box. On side that opens, holds copper label which is printed "B.G. Ryan & Co. Berlin-Guelph". Label is attached to the side by two small brass tacks. Top side is slotted, through which coins were dropped. On the inside of this slot are two rows of nails flanking the coin slot. One row has five nails. The other has six. These nails are placed at opposing 45 degree angles to each other. These nails demand that the coins be pushed before the inside chamber of the bank will receive them. They also prevent coins from falling out if the bank was held upside down. Side slot which lifts up has a hole in centre. At one time it held a lock which is now missing. Made by Van Nest N.Y. which is stamped on the handle. Serial number 80264 is printed on the top adjacent to the coin slot. |
