Description |
A handmade guitar called the 'Guelph Storyteller Guitar' made by Doug Larson from 2007 to 2009. The guitar is made from 3,562 seperate pieces of wood collected from 68 local residents and 35 local businesses. The acoustic guitar has a light wood top with a three tone inlay and banding of wood and ivory. The pick guard is part of a turtle shell. Around the sound hole is a rosette of basswood that has been dyed with recorder ink. In that rosette there are also the initials "GG" for Guelph Guitar. There are several inlaid squares on the neck of the guitar that include shale, turtle rib, woolly mammoth ivory and a 110 million year old distilbe fossil. The headstock has a Hillside festival amulet in the centre. Above the amulet are two raised triangles of wood that came from the fireplace at Manhattan's restaurant. Above the amulet is an inlaid City of Guelph crown made of wartyback mussel shell and in the centre of the crown is a diamond from Canada's first diamond mine. Visible from the sound hole is the paper label inside the guitar. The label has Tom King's family imprint as well as Bartlett's Canadian Scenery image. At the top of the headstock is inset a nail that comes from the Priory. The back of the guitar is seamed with two-tone wood inlay in a chevron pattern. There is also the same three tone wood banding around the edge as on the top. At the base of the neck, on the back is a Canadian National 6167 label. On the back of the headstock is a Sleeman Brewery label with John Sleeman's signature dated Feb 20, 2008. |
