A rocking chair owned by Phyllis Higinbotham 1910-1968. The rocking chair contains walnut wood as well as a caned seat and backrest. The seat protrudes past the width of the backrest in a round shape. It has turned front legs, back rail, and half arm rests. Phyllis Higinbotham was a registered nurse and descendant of many well-known early colonial settlers of Guelph. She served overseas as a nurse at the end of WWI. After the war, Phyllis went to Gatlinburg Tennessee to help provide medical care for the local community. She returned to Guelph in the late 1920s. Phyllis took great interest in the history of her ancestors and the Guelph area and was a major contributor to some of the earlier collections found at Guelph Museums. |
