Easy chair made by Frederick James Armstrong (1881-1958), 1920-1958 Cushioned easy char with beige upholstering. Turned armrest spindles connecting to seat. Five designed lines/creases in backrest. Reupholstered in 1975 by Glenn Piovesan. Frederick James Armstrong (1881-1958) started F J Armstrong Furniture and Upholstering in the mid to late 1920s. He previously worked at W J Armstrong among other factories. By 1930, F J Armstrong Furniture was at 26 Douglas Street and moved to 17 Suffolk Street by 1940. By 1947, the business moved again to 82 Norfolk Street. Frederick continued working in upholstery (Both for himself and for MacDonald's Furniture) until his death in 1958. |
